The 3-Day Mount Meru Trek is an exciting adventure designed for hikers seeking a rewarding summit experience within a shorter timeframe. Standing at 4,566 metres (14,980 feet), Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and offers breathtaking scenery, abundant wildlife, and outstanding views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Located within Arusha National Park, the trek begins with a unique walking safari through forest and open grasslands inhabited by giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, warthogs, and numerous bird species. Higher on the mountain, dramatic volcanic landscapes and panoramic views reward every step.

Although more demanding than the 4-day itinerary due to faster altitude gain, the 3-day trek remains an excellent choice for fit and experienced hikers.

Day 01 :

Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut

Approximately 10 km

Hiking Time:

4–6 Hours

After breakfast, depart from Moshi or Arusha for Momella Gate, where you’ll complete registration and meet your armed park ranger.

Begin your hike through open savannah before entering the lush montane rainforest. Along the trail, there are excellent opportunities to observe wildlife including giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, bushbucks, and monkeys.

Continue climbing through the forest until reaching Miriakamba Hut, where dinner and overnight accommodation await.

Day 02 :

Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak – Miriakamba Hut

Today’s adventure begins shortly after midnight.

Climb steadily through alpine vegetation toward Rhino Point before following the dramatic crater ridge to Socialist Peak (4,566 m).

After celebrating your achievement, descend to Saddle Hut for brunch before continuing to Miriakamba Hut for your second overnight stay.
