Overview
The 8-Day Northern Circuit Route offers an adventurous and less-travelled approach to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Beginning on the western side of the mountain, the trail follows the beautiful Lemosho approach through pristine rainforest and across the Shira Plateau before turning north around the quieter slopes of Kibo.
The route passes through remote high-altitude landscapes rarely visited by climbers using the busier southern trails. From Moir Hut, the journey continues through Pofu or Buffalo Camp, Third Cave and School Hut before reaching Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres.
After reaching the summit, climbers descend along the southern Mweka Route, creating a varied journey that explores several sides of Mount Kilimanjaro.
This eight-day program is faster and more demanding than the standard nine-day Northern Circuit. It is therefore recommended for physically fit trekkers who are comfortable with consecutive long hiking days.
Throughout the climb, the professional mountain team from KILIMANJARO MAGIC ADVENTURE will support you with expert guidance, daily health monitoring, nutritious meals and carefully managed mountain logistics.

Why Choose the 8-Day Northern Circuit?
- Remote trails with fewer climbers
- Panoramic views from several sides of Kilimanjaro
- Scenic western approach through the Lemosho forest
- Crossing of the spectacular Shira Plateau
- Quiet northern wilderness around Kibo
- Excellent views of Mawenzi Peak and the Kenyan plains
- Varied ascent and descent routes
- Professional support from an experienced mountain crew
Fitness and Experience
The 8-Day Northern Circuit is recommended for trekkers with:
- Good cardiovascular fitness
- Experience with consecutive hiking days
- The ability to walk for six to eight hours over uneven terrain
- Proper preparation for cold and high-altitude conditions
- A willingness to follow the guide’s pace and health instructions
No technical climbing skills are required. However, the condensed schedule makes this itinerary more physically demanding than the nine- or ten-day Northern Circuit options.
Important Acclimatisation Note
The 8-Day Northern Circuit combines several stages that are normally spread across a longer itinerary. For most first-time high-altitude climbers, KILIMANJARO MAGIC ADVENTURE recommends the 9-Day Northern Circuit, which provides a more gradual approach and additional recovery time.
The 8-day option is most suitable for fit trekkers, experienced hikers and travellers whose schedules do not allow an additional mountain day.
